How to convert PNG to ICO
- Tap "Choose photos" or drop your PNG image onto the box. ICO is already chosen.
- Tap Convert.
- Download the .ico file and put it on your website or use it for a shortcut.
Good to know
One .ico file holds the same picture at several sizes: 16, 32 and 48 pixels, and 64, 128 and 256 when your image is big enough. Browsers pick the size they need for a tab, a bookmark or a shortcut, and Windows does the same for desktop icons.
The picture is fitted into a square, centered, with see-through space around it, so a square image of 256 × 256 pixels or more works best. See-through parts of a PNG stay see-through. JPG, WebP and other pictures work too.
Questions
How do I use it as my website’s favicon?
Name the file favicon.ico and put it in the main folder of your website. Browsers look for it there; most website builders also have a setting to upload it.
Which sizes are inside the icon?
16, 32 and 48 pixels always, and 64, 128 and 256 pixels when your image is at least that big.
My image isn’t square. What happens?
It is fitted inside the square without stretching, with see-through space above and below or at the sides.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The icon is made by your browser on your device. Nothing is sent to us.
