Remove location and hidden details from photos

Add your photos to see what they reveal, such as where they were taken, then download clean copies. The picture itself isn’t changed, and nothing is uploaded.

Your files are processed on this device. Nothing is uploaded, and once you’ve added your first file it keeps working in flight mode.

How to remove location and hidden details from photos

  1. Tap "Add photos" or drop JPG, PNG or WebP photos onto the box.
  2. Check what each photo reveals: location, camera or phone, date taken, editing notes.
  3. Tap "Remove hidden details", then download the clean copies.

Good to know

Phones and cameras store hidden details inside each photo, often including the exact place it was taken. Anyone you send the file to can read them. Removing them is worth doing before you sell something online, post a photo of your home, or send pictures to strangers.

Only the hidden details are removed: the picture is not re-saved, so its quality is exactly the same. The setting that tells apps which way up to show the photo is kept, so it doesn’t end up sideways.

Questions

What does it remove?

The location (GPS), camera or phone model, date and time taken, editing software, comments, and caption and copyright notes. Colour information that keeps the picture looking right is kept.

Does it lower the quality?

No. The picture data is copied exactly; only the hidden details are taken out.

Do WhatsApp and Facebook remove location anyway?

Many apps remove it when they send or post a photo, but not all do, and files sent by email, cloud links or as documents usually keep it. Removing it yourself makes sure.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Your photos, and the locations inside them, are read and cleaned by your browser on your device.
