How to convert PDF to Word
- Tap "Add a PDF" or drop it onto the box.
- Wait while the pages are read and the Word file is written. A 30-page PDF takes a few seconds.
- Tap "Download Word file (.docx)" and open it in Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice or Pages.
Good to know
This works best with typed PDFs: ones made from Word or another program, or downloaded from a website or a bank. Text, headings, bold and italic, colours, lists, tables, links and pictures become real Word content you can edit, not a picture of the page.
A PDF only records where each letter sits on the page. Paragraphs, columns and tables are worked out again from those positions, so simple documents usually come out close to the original, but text boxes, forms, drawings made of lines and shapes (such as charts) and magazine-style pages may need tidying in Word. Keep your PDF as the original.
Scanned PDFs are pictures of pages, with no typed text inside. The tool tells you when a PDF looks scanned instead of giving you an empty Word file. Reading scans (OCR, which reads text from a picture) will be part of our paid plan.
Questions
Will it look exactly like my PDF?
Often close, but not always exactly. Page size, margins, fonts, spacing and page breaks are matched where possible, but a PDF has no real paragraphs or tables inside, so they are rebuilt from where the text sits. Text boxes, forms and complex layouts may need tidying. If your device lacks a font the PDF used, Word shows a similar one.
Can it convert a scanned PDF?
Not yet. A scan holds pictures of text, not text, and the tool tells you when a PDF looks scanned. For now you can save its pages as pictures with PDF to JPG. Reading scans will be part of our paid plan.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Your browser reads and converts it on your device, so private documents such as contracts and statements stay with you.
Can I open the file in Google Docs or Pages?
Yes. The .docx file opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs (upload it to Google Drive, then open it), LibreOffice and Apple Pages.
Does it work with a password-protected PDF?
Remove the password first with Unlock PDF (you need to know the password), then convert the unlocked copy.
