Convert JPG to Word

Add photos, scans or screenshots of a document and download the text as a Word file you can edit, with its paragraphs, headings and tables. The text is read on your device: nothing is uploaded.

Your files are processed on this device, and nothing is uploaded. Once the tool has finished your first file, it keeps working in airplane mode. Check it yourself

How to convert JPG to Word

  1. Tap "Choose pictures" or drop them onto the box. Several pictures become several pages, in the order of the list.
  2. Check the language of the text, then tap "Convert to Word". The first time, your browser downloads the text reader from our site.
  3. Tap "Download Word file (.docx)" and open it in Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice or Pages.

Good to know

The tool reads the text in your pictures (OCR, which reads text from a picture) and writes it into a Word document as real text: paragraphs, headings, lists and tables are rebuilt from where the words sit. The picture itself is left out, so the file stays small and easy to edit.

Printed text in a sharp, straight, well-lit photo or a scan reads best. Handwriting is not read reliably. Choose the language of the text before you start: the reader then knows its letters and accents, and you can choose more than one.

The text reader runs in your browser. The first time, it is downloaded from our site once; after that it starts right away, even offline. Your pictures are never uploaded. Check names, numbers and amounts against the picture: OCR can mix up similar letters, such as 0 and O.

Questions

Can I convert a phone photo of a document?

Yes. Hold the phone straight above the page, in good light, so the text is sharp. JPG, PNG, WebP and iPhone (HEIC) photos all work.

Will the Word file look like my picture?

The text, paragraphs, headings, lists and tables are rebuilt, so it reads like the original, but the exact layout, fonts and the picture itself are not copied. Check the layout as well as the words.

Can I convert several pictures into one Word file?

Yes. Add them all: each picture becomes a page of the same Word file, in the order of the list.

Does it read handwriting?

Not reliably. It is made for printed and typed text.

Is anything uploaded?

No. The text is read by your browser on your device, so private documents stay with you.
