How to convert Word to PDF
- Tap "Choose a Word file" or drop a .docx file onto the box.
- The first time, your browser downloads the converter from our site, once. After that it starts right away.
- Tap "Download PDF" and check it before you send it.
Good to know
The converter lays out your document page by page, as Word does: paragraphs, headings, bold and italic, colors, lists, tables, pictures, headers, footers, page numbers, footnotes and columns. The text in the PDF is real text, so it can be searched and copied.
Word documents often use fonts that come with Microsoft Office, such as Calibri, Cambria, Arial and Times New Roman. The converter uses free look-alikes with the same letter widths (Carlito, Caladea and Liberation), so lines and pages break where they do in Word. Charts, text boxes and unusual fonts may look a little different: check the PDF before you send it.
It takes .docx files, the format Word has used since 2007, including files saved from Google Docs, LibreOffice and Pages. For an older .doc file, open it in Word and save it as .docx first. The converter runs in your browser; it is downloaded from our site once and then works offline. Your document is never uploaded.
Questions
Will the PDF look the same as in Word?
Close to it for most documents: the text, tables, pictures, headers and footers are laid out as in Word, and fonts are replaced by look-alikes with the same letter widths, so pages break in the same places. Charts, text boxes and rare fonts may look a little different, so check the PDF before you send it.
Is my document uploaded?
No. Your browser converts it on your device, so contracts, CVs and letters stay with you. The first time, the converter itself is downloaded from our site.
Can I convert a .doc file?
Not directly. Open it in Word, choose File, Save As, Word Document (.docx), then convert the .docx file.
Can I convert a Google Doc?
Yes. In Google Docs, choose File, Download, Microsoft Word (.docx), then add that file here.
Why is there a download the first time?
The converter runs on your device instead of on a server, so your browser needs a copy of it: about 21 MB, once. After that it starts right away, even offline.
