How to compress a photo to 1 MB

  2. Tap "Compress".
  3. Download the photo, or all of them in one ZIP file.

Good to know

Each photo is tried at the best quality first. Quality, and if needed the size in pixels, is lowered only as far as it takes to get under 1 MB.

Under 1 MB a photo still prints well at postcard size, and it fits most upload limits and email.

We count 1 MB as 1,000,000 bytes, so the photo also fits forms that count 1 MB as 1,048,576 bytes. Need a different size? Choose "Other" and type it in.

Questions

Will a 1 MB photo still print well?

Usually, yes, up to about 10 × 15 cm (4 × 6 inches). The pixel size is kept unless the photo can’t get under 1 MB any other way.

Can I compress several photos at once?

Yes, up to 4 at a time without an account, each up to 10 MB. Each one is made smaller than 1 MB, and you can download them together in one ZIP file.

Can I use iPhone photos?

Yes. iPhone (HEIC) photos are converted and saved as JPG.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Your photos are compressed by your browser on your device. Nothing is sent to us.
