Good to know
Online application forms often take documents as a PDF with a size limit: a certificate, mark sheet or ID scan under 200 KB or 300 KB, for example. The PDF is built at full quality first. Only if it is over your limit are the photos inside made smaller, step by step, until it fits, so it keeps as much detail as the limit allows.
Each photo goes on its own A4 page; choose "Fit to photo" for pages the size of each photo. We count 1 KB as 1,000 bytes, so the PDF also fits forms that count 1 KB as 1,024 bytes.
Questions
What if it can’t get under the limit?
With many pages and a very small limit, the pages would become hard to read. Then you get the smallest readable PDF, and the page tells you. Use fewer pages, or crop each scan to the document first with Crop and rotate.
Can I make a PDF under 100 KB or 500 KB?
Yes. Choose 100 KB, 500 KB or 1 MB, or choose Other and type any size from 20 KB.
Can I make a PDF I already have smaller?
Yes, with Compress PDF, which has the same size limits and keeps the text of a typed PDF sharp.
Is my document uploaded?
No. The PDF is built and made smaller by your browser on your device.
